Jeremy King on His (Short-Lived) Button-Up Era

Who knew he ever mixed his signature tailoring with Gap?

Of the many David Bailey photographs gracing our walls at Arlington, the photographer’s 90s-era portrait of Jeremy King and Chris Corbin is among our all-time favourites. We only recently discovered that it was taken for a Gap advertising campaign intended to be splashed across London buses.

“Hence the uncharacteristically casual looking ‘button-down’ shirts,” explains Jeremy. “Bailey was in an impish mood that day, and didn’t observe the strictures laid down for the campaign, including making it possible to fit into the bus’s narrow panel.” Unfortunately, the image was never used, and although the perspective was a bit strange, says Jeremy, “I really liked it.”

As do we. Do stop by for a closer look on your next visit to the ladies’ room.
