Read Them and Weep

The members of Arlington Book Club share our irresistible reads of the moment

It’s been a heads-down summer for members of the Arlington Book Club. Recently, we gathered to discuss Yesteryear, Caro Claire Burke’s dystopian novel about a troubled tradwife that everyone on Substack simply can’t stop talking about. (Who can blame them?)

We generally kick off our meetings by sharing our latest literary adventures, so if you are looking for your next summer read, we have a few inspired suggestions.

Katie: ‘Call Me Elizabeth,’ by Dawn Annandale
Caroline: ‘After Oscar: The Legacy of a Scandal,’ by Merlin Holland
John: ‘Frankenstein,’ by Mary Shelley
Robin: ‘Still Life, by Sarah Winman
Robert: ‘Epic of Gilgamesh’ and ‘Babylonia’ by Costanza Casati
Joanna: ‘A Beginner’s Guide to Dying’ by Simon Boas and ‘The Portrait of a Lady’ by Henry James
Ashley: ‘What We Can Know’ by Ian McEwan
