For the second Long Lunch at Arlington, we were delighted to be joined by Blondey McCoy and his guest.
Londoner Blondey McCoy (@blondey and @theblondeyway) is a professional skateboarder, a fashion designer with his own brand, an artist and a model. He is also a father of four.
WHAT ARE THE KEY ELEMENTS FOR A SUCCESSFUL LONG LUNCH?
Must have good food and good company. Piano is a bonus, and a big preceding evening too. Must not have phones, somewhere else to be, or speculation — the sordid details of my own life and that of the person I’m dining with are plenty stimulating enough for me, thank you very much!
WHAT DO YOU VALUE MOST IN A LUNCH COMPANION?
A sense of humour. To quote Arthur, one of my favourite movies, “Isn’t fun the best thing to have?”
WHAT DID YOU EAT/DRINK TODAY?
I had a Russell’s Caesar Salad on the suggestion of the lovely blonde lady whose name, regretfully, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten. Then the same as always: a Shepherd’s Pie, two Coca Colas, and a nibble of Nick’s cheesecake. The pie has never let me down — not at the ‘guinea pig’ trials, nor at our wedding rehearsal dinner, never — and I remember a group of proud New York epicureans I was with one night all thoroughly approving of the cheesecake.
WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE – RESTAURANT OR OTHER – YOU HAVE EVER RECEIVED?
Don’t forget to stop and smell the roses!
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON AT THE MOMENT?
Generally, I am somewhat re-calibrating the business in the hopes that actually taking the above advice will one day be feasible. Specifically, as in when I get back today, I’ll be finishing laying out a magazine of skate photography between Paris and London. I think after all this restaurant talk I’ll call it ‘THAMES MMXX. in Paris & London.’ Thank you for the prompt!
